About

AL Trust (SEBI Reg. IN/AIF1/17-18/0504) is the primary India Fund of AngelList India — India's leading deal syndication and angel investing platform, operated by AngelList India LLP. Registered as a Category I AIF (Angel Fund) in November 2017, AL Trust serves as the main pooled investment vehicle through which AngelList India deploys capital into early-stage Indian startups. A companion entity, AL Access Trust (IN/AIF1/18-19/0650), acts as a feeder through which individual eligible angel investors commit capital into AL Trust. Through this two-trust structure, AngelList India enables experienced operator angels and institutional investors to co-invest on a deal-by-deal basis (via syndicates) or via committed capital pools (via angel funds). The platform has facilitated over 700 investments into Indian startups. The registered address is E1/12, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi 110057.

Investment philosophy

AngelList India's investment philosophy is infrastructure-first: rather than deploying a fixed thesis-driven fund, it operates as a platform that empowers experienced angels and fund managers to build their own portfolios using AngelList's regulatory, back-office, and distribution infrastructure. Investments are made into early-stage (pre-seed to seed) Indian technology startups across sectors including SaaS, fintech, consumer internet, healthtech, and enterprise software. The platform emphasises speed of execution, cost efficiency, and access to deal flow across a networked community. 'The Collective' — a co-investment vehicle backed by institutional LPs — invests alongside angel fund managers on the platform, adding institutional validation to early-stage rounds. AngelList India also offers EquityList, a free cap table and ESOP management tool for Indian startups, reinforcing its positioning as a full-stack platform for the startup ecosystem.

Utsav Somani

Head of AngelList India / General Partner, iSeed

Utsav Somani oversees all of AngelList India's operations and is the key person responsible for the AL Trust AIF. He joined AngelList as an advisor in 2016 and formally established AngelList India LLP, which became India's most active seed-stage investor with over 700 investments. Alongside his AngelList India role, he manages iSeed, his personal SEBI-registered micro-fund (AL Access Trust, IN/AIF1/18-19/0650), which has deployed ~$100M across two India funds and a Galaxy fund. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a B.Sc. in Information Systems Management and Finance from Singapore Management University and an M.Sc. in Innovation & Entrepreneurship from ESADE Business School.
