About Ashmore Group

Ashmore Investment Management India LLP (AIMI) is an investment management firm domiciled in Mumbai, established in 2016. The main activity of AIMI is to manage Investment Funds in India and render investment advice to Foreign Portfolio Investors and institutional investors overseas. AIMI is managed by experienced investment professionals who have worked both in India and overseas with a deep specialization in India. The team has been an integral part of Ashmore's equity team since 2006.

Investment philosophy

The firm's equity themes all share common underpinning principles. The firm believes that Emerging and Frontier markets are highly inefficient and provide strong potential for significant alpha generation through actively managed, high conviction and investment focused approaches. The firm's investment universes are unconstrained by indices since relying on indices can be inherently restrictive. Furthermore, the firm believes that strong portfolio performance can only be sustained by ensuring portfolios have the ability to be managed actively. Consequently, liquidity assessment, and a conservative approach to capacity management, are integral to both portfolio performance and risk management. The firm's Equity themes generate alpha from multiple sources. Environmental, Social and Governance factors are explicitly assessed, scored and integrated into the firm's investment process to help enhance the firm's ability to deliver superior risk adjusted returns. The firm's themes are all driven by investment committees that are team based with individual accountability. Structured oversight is carried out by the Equity Investment Committee.

Rashi Talwar Bhatia

Rashi Talwar Bhatia is a co-founder of Ashmore Investment Management India LLP. Since 2007, she has been responsible for advising Ashmore Group plc. on public market equity investments in the Indian Subcontinent. Rashi joined the Indian equity markets in 2001 as an equity research analyst with Refco Securities and subsequently Motilal Oswal Securities and Kotak Securities. Rashi holds an MBA from Owen School of Management, Vanderbilt University (1999) and a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from Hindu College, Delhi University (1997).

Thomas Adam Shippey

Chartered Accountant, BSc

Tom Shippey was appointed to the Board as Group Finance Director in November 2013. He was previously Head of Corporate Development, in which capacity he was responsible for developing and implementing Ashmore's corporate strategy. Prior to joining Ashmore in 2007, he worked for UBS Investment Bank, including advising on the Ashmore IPO in 2006. Tom qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1999 and has a BSc. in International Business and German from Aston University.
