About Beyond Next Ventures

Since 2014, Beyond Next Ventures has invested in deep tech startups and supported their growth, while building the ecosystem around them. Together with exceptional challengers in deep tech, the firm is boldly opening new frontiers and building the society of the future. Since 2019, the firm has invested in startups in India, drawing on the networks built by its local team and its deep tech investment expertise developed in Japan.

Investment philosophy

Since its founding in 2014, Beyond Next Ventures has focused exclusively on deep tech, building the capabilities to help turn research into viable businesses. The firm invests from the seed stage onward, primarily as lead investor, and continues to back its companies as they grow, investing up to USD 13 million per company across multiple rounds. From the earliest stages of assessing a research result's commercial potential, the firm works with researchers and business leaders to lay the groundwork for a startup. This includes formulating a business hypothesis, building a management team, negotiating IP and licensing arrangements with universities, securing grant funding, and designing a capitalization strategy. The firm's HR team works with portfolio companies to build the teams each stage calls for, from assembling founding teams before launch to defining executive and key talent needs as the business grows.
