About EscapeVelocity

EscapeVelocity Trust (IN/AIF2/22-23/1231) is a SEBI-registered Category II Alternative Investment Fund registered in March 2023, the India AIF vehicle of EscapeVelocity — an early-stage technology venture capital firm founded in 2022 by Shailesh Rao and Madhav Tandan. The fund partners with Indian entrepreneurs building transformational technology businesses for global markets. EscapeVelocity combines capital with scaled global operating expertise and deep international networks — drawing on Shailesh Rao's 20+ years as a senior executive at Google, Twitter, and Yodlee, and Madhav Tandan's 8+ years at Omidyar Network and prior investment banking experience at Citigroup and Credit Suisse. The fund is registered at 401, Krystal Building, Waterfield Road, Bandra West, Mumbai 400050.

Investment philosophy

EscapeVelocity is built around the belief that Indian entrepreneurs can build hyper-growth businesses that reach every continent. The firm invests at early stage, rolls up its sleeves alongside founders, and brings both capital and substantive global operating help — whether that's finding a first customer, hiring a first sales leader, or localising a product for international markets. The platform combines hands-on operator experience at the highest levels of global tech (Google, YouTube, Twitter) with deep venture investing expertise developed at Omidyar Network across emerging tech. Ticket sizes and stage focus are seed/pre-Series A, with portfolio support extending through multiple rounds.

Shailesh Rao

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Shailesh Rao is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of EscapeVelocity. He has 20+ years of experience as a senior technology executive. He was a founding team executive for Google Maps and Google Earth globally, led YouTube's international expansion, and was a senior executive at Twitter. He was also at Yodlee (embedded finance platform, backed by Sequoia and Accel). His angel/early investments include Moglix, Kristal.ai, Spinny, Omaze, Iterative Scopes, Raena, Ula, Klub, Sun Mobility, BigSpring, Rephrase.ai, Nykaa (Series D/E), and LivSpace (Series C).

Madhav Tandan

Co-Founder & Managing Partner; SEBI Contact Person

Madhav Tandan is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of EscapeVelocity and the SEBI-registered contact person for EscapeVelocity Trust. He spent 8+ years at Omidyar Network, where he sourced, evaluated, and managed investments in emerging technology. Prior to that, he spent 7 years in technology investment banking across multiple geographies with Citigroup and Credit Suisse. He holds a Masters from the University of Oxford.
